When you have two newborn babies at home, it can be twice as nerve-racking because there's always the chance that something could happen to not just one of them, but both of them—at the same time.
Let's face it, you need to sleep at some point, even if those moments are abundantly scarce and the quality is incredibly inadequate.
Having the right system in place for keeping an eye on your newborns when you can't be on guard can give you the peace of mind you need when they're napping or sleeping.
There are a lot of baby monitors out there, and it's hard to know which one will best suit your needs as parents. If you're expecting multiples and are researching your options, I've gotta say, as a mother of twins—and as a twin myself—we absolutely love Nanit's Pro Smart Baby Monitor for our children.
It's got Pro in the name for a reason

This smart baby monitor is a 1080p, high-definition, secure Wi-Fi video camera equipped with night vision and two-way audio. It provides real-time sound and motion alerts and also has a sensor-free sleep and breathing motion tracker that can alert parents if no breathing is detected, even if Wi-Fi is down.
The monitor comes with an easy-to-install ASTM-certified wall mount, so you can get an aerial view of your baby while they're in their crib. The included Flex Stand allows you to unplug this monitor from the wall mount and take it on-the-go, so you can keep a watchful eye on your sweet babies from wherever you are, whether you're traveling somewhere as a family unit or your dynamic duo is headed to Grandma and Grandpa's for a weekend getaway.
The Flex Stand has a wide range of motion and can also be angled very precisely, so you'll always be able to get just the right angle to keep an eye on your babies, no matter where you're setting it up.
On that note, the app allows you to add multiple users, so parents can have access to the video feed, but so can grandparents or other trusted caregivers you decide to give access to.
This means that whomever is watching your babies can easily use the app to monitor them, control the settings, and get access to your baby's moments (like a reminder that they've turned six months old, or that sweet and spectacular moment they slept through the night for the very first time).
For those who are interested in the technical aspects of this monitor, it's got 256-bit AES encryption and two-factor authentication that work together to provide exceptional security for your sensitive data.
Side by side view simultaneously
We have two of the pro monitors and flex stands for our twins because you'll need a separate camera for each of your baby's cribs.
Part of what makes this monitor so slick for parents who have two newborns is that the companion app allows you to set up side by side views of your babies' cribs, giving you live views of each crib simultaneously (you can add up to two cameras to your livestream feed).
You can add your babies' names to their respective video feeds, so you can easily see who's who without trying to remember which pajamas they wore to bed that night. You can see a comparison below of daytime vs. nightime dual live feeds and drag the slider in the middle of the picture to see the difference between the two.

Having the two-up view is a nice touch. If you hear a cry in the night, you can open the app and instantly see who's awake and needs attention, instead of having to swipe between individual views (which you can also do, if you want to look at them separately).
It just lets you see what's going on more quickly, which you'll always want to do if you want to avoid one crying baby waking up their soundly sleeping sibling.
You can also zoom in on each feed individually while in the dual, side by side view, which is handy if you want to make sure everything's looking good at a quick glance.
Audio and video monitoring

This baby (read: the monitor, not your actual baby) is equipped with night vision, so it gives you a clear video feed, whether the room is flooded with daylight or shrouded in complete darkness from the incredible blackout curtains you've set up in their nursery.
You get real-time alerts sent to your phone for sound and motion events. If your baby cries, you'll get a sound notification, so you can peek at the app to see if they need assistance or just need a minute to get themselves settled.
If someone goes in to soothe your baby (like your cat, for example), you'll get a motion alert on your phone.

Or if, when they're older and more mobile, they try to fly the coop when they think you aren't paying attention, your phone will tell you the camera senses movement, so you can watch in real-time as they try to scale the side of their crib and intervene before anyone escapes and gets hurt.

In addition to a live feed of your baby, this monitor is equipped with two-way audio, so not only can you hear what's going on in the room if your little one has decided to sing themselves to sleep (which is oh, so cute when you hear it for the first time), but you can also activate the microphone feature to talk to them if they've decided to, say, build a massive fort in their bed instead of nodding off to sleep.
Enhancing the sleep mood

One of the most important things for your babies during the early years of their development is sleep.
It's important for you, as parents, too, but you somehow find a way to tread through the fog of those early days with your newborn twins, despite chugging along on the fumes that emanate from getting very minimal sleep.
This monitor helps parents keep an eye on their newborns and will help keep your little ones comfortable in their sleep environment, whether that's by your side in your bedroom or in their nursery once they're a bit older.
Making sure your babies are comfortable, especially during their naps and overnight sleep sessions, is important. You don't want your little ones to be too cold and you also don't want them overheating.
But when you're not in their bedroom or sleeping area with them, it can be hard to know for sure if the room conditions are straying from their desired ranges, especially if you live somewhere that has a wide range in the daily temperature.
...it provides real-time temperature and humidity readings on each baby's respective video feed.
Rather than trying to sneak silently into their room to confirm they're okay and don't need immediate assistance from you, invest in the Nanit Pro Smart Baby Monitor because it provides real-time temperature and humidity readings on each baby's respective video feed.
This way, you can see at a glance if anything needs to be tweaked, which is super handy for those times you've finally gotten your twins to sleep and don't want to risk waking them up for something you can easily check through the monitor's app.
And there are other ways this monitor can contribute to a positive sleep environment for your babies. It has a built-in sound machine with different soundscapes, including nature sounds, white noise, and lullabies, and it also has a built-in dimmable night light.

One of my favorite features with the sound and nightlight options is that both are incredibly adjustable. You can turn the sound or light up or down on a scale of zero to 100, and you can also put the nightlight and / or sound machine on a timer, so on or both can automatically turn off after 15, 30, or 60 minutes, if you don't want them going all the time.
Breathing motion monitoring
This baby monitor is also equipped with breathing motion monitoring, so it comes with a small sensor-free breathing band, which fits babies from newborn up to three months old.
Nanit's breathing wear line, which is made up of the breathing band, a swaddle, a sleeping bag, and pajamas, has a custom pattern that works with the Pro (and also Nanit's Plus model) camera to detect your baby's breathing and monitor movement in nearly any sleep position.
Designed to monitor your baby's breaths per minute after you've left their crib, Nanit's breathing wear line works with the camera's advanced sensors to monitor breathing motions based on the movement of the patterns in their breathing wear. If the camera detects no motion, it'll send a Red Alert notification to your camera and your phone, even if the Wi-Fi is down.
I tested the Red Alert notification, and even in Demo mode, it was immediately very clear that it wasn't your run-of-the-mill sound or motion notification; it was a full-on There's-an-Urgent-Problem-Check-Your-Baby-Right-Now Alert with sounds blaring on my phone and the monitor and lights flashing brightly on the camera.

If you go to their crib, check everything out, and everything is okay, you can stop the alarm by holding your hand over the camera.
We didn't run into any breathing issues with our twins overnight, but there was one instance where one of our babies stopped breathing the first day he was at home. It was during the day, and my husband was holding and watching him, so, fortunately, he saw the moment it happened. He had to poke our baby's tummy after a second to remind him to take his next breath, and he took it right away and was fine after that.
Luckily, the NICU team had warned us this might happen. Because our twins were born 6.5 weeks early, their respiratory system was still developing and shifting from the fluid-filled environment they were used to in the womb to one of breathing air. Because they'd given us a heads-up to watch for this, my husband knew what to do as soon as he saw it happen, and everything worked out fine.
...if this had happened overnight...then the monitor would have detected the problem and...the monitor's alarm would have sounded, and we'd have known right away there was a serious problem that needed our immediate attention.
But if this had happened overnight while we were sleeping and our baby was wearing Nanit's Breathing Wear, then the monitor would have detected the problem and sent a Red Alert to our phones and the monitor's alarm would have sounded, and we'd have known right away there was a serious problem that needed our immediate attention.
This feature on the baby monitor can give parents of twins incredible peace of mind because when you have two babies who are likely going to be born prematurely, dealing with breathing issues is a serious reality that you need to be prepared for.
Sleep data tracking and extra insights

When you buy Nanit's Pro Smart Baby Monitor, you get a free six-month trial of its Insights Sleep Plan, which includes their live-status sleep dashboard and sleep data tracking analysis details such as the length of time they've spent in bed during a sleep session, what time they fell asleep, and how many naps they had that day.
You can also save video clips and your baby's video history and gain access to unlimited real-time notifications such as crying detection, baby standing up, or child out of bed notifications. After the free trial period is over, you need an active membership (you can pick from three different tiers) to access these features.
Grows with your babies
This baby monitor also grows with your babies because Nanit's companion app gives you access to incredibly helpful tips, like whether your babies are getting enough sleep, how to help them fall asleep on their own, how to deal with night wakings, what to do when it's time to babyproof, tips for room sharing, signs that it's time to drop a nap, tips for weaning overnight feeds, etc.
