As fall is winding down and we're gearing up for the end of the year, we got our wheels turning and decided it was also time to gear up for the next major toddler milestone before winter settles in: learning to ride a bike!
We surprised our twins with their very own Electro-Light bikes by Huffy, and, boy, were they ever a hit. Their faces lit up when they saw their chariots awaiting.

These 16-inch kid's bikes are made for beginners, and they're seriously cool. I wish I had one like them when I was learning how to ride a bike.
To this day, I still remember the night I ditched the training wheels.
To this day, I still remember the night I ditched the training wheels.
It was bedtime, and my twin brother and I had somehow negotiated our way from our bedroom into the garage to try to bank "just a little, teeny tiny bit" of time on our bikes before having to slink back inside to get some shut-eye.
During that short session, determination must have set in, or dares must have been doled out, because within minutes, my training wheels had been removed by my dad, and I was precariously pushing my pedal forward and praying I didn't topple over onto the hard floor and get hurt.
The moment I realized I'd made it was magical.
From ABCs to LEDs

One of the biggest things we tell our kids is that they have to practice their ABCs—always be careful—around cars because they might not always see us on the sidewalk or the street.
Obviously, everyone still needs to exercise extra caution at all times (and remember to always ensure your children are wearing helmets whenever they're riding), but parents can find some peace of mind in the fact that there are two safety features on Huffy's Electro-Light bikes to help increase the visibility of your children while they're riding around in low-light situations.

The two reflectors on the front and back wheels, plus the ones below both the handlebar and the seat, add four points of heightened visibility for those who will see your children cycling around on their bikes.
Beyond the reflectors, parents will be pleased to behold the other major beacons on this bicycle: dozens of dazzling LED lights that shine in sync as your twins pedal around.

With the push of a single button, three different areas of this bike light up in stupendous synchronization: throughout the mirrored panel in front of the handlebars, around the frame insert near the seat, and all along the chainguard.

The electro-light feature runs on three AA batteries, which are included with the bike, and will probably have parents ravin' to Sandstorm in their heads while their toddlers are tearin' around with 10 different LED modes strobing while they cycle.

Learning to ride

There are enough things to focus on when you're learning how to ride a bike for the first time. Stability shouldn't be one of them, especially when you have two little bodies you're worried about keeping upright and intact while they're at it.
One thing your twins won't have to worry about is feeling unsteady on this bicycle.

It's got a sturdy frame made of alloy steel that makes it feel solid, and it's finished with a sleek silver to black fade that complements the color palette of this bike.

Built with beginners in mind, this bicycle features rear coaster brakes that put your kids in control.

All they have to do is pedal backwards to engage easy and safe braking they can count on.
They grow alongside your twins

A common financial frustration faced by many parents who have twins or higher-order multiples is that there's a new expense—times two—every time you turn around. Sometimes, almost faster than you can prepare for.
Fortunately, these bikes are designed to grow alongside your twins.
Not only can you adjust the height of the seat and the handlebars, but this model's quick-release seat binder means you can quickly and easily adjust the height of the seat within seconds, giving your toddlers the perfect fit as they continue to grow.

Removable training wheels add another layer of stability and security, emboldening your beginners and empowering them with the confidence they need to sharpen this new skill.
Get a grip

The handlebar grips on Electro-Light bikes are made of soft thermoplastic rubber (TPR). The grooves on the grips help increase friction, providing a comfortable, non-slip grip for riders and helping with shock absorption.
Because they're made of TPR, they don't get slippery, like silicone handlebars do when your hands get sweaty (read: when you're preparing to take your very first pedal), and they are more durable than a foam grip option would be, while still being comfortable and durable.

Electro-Light Kids Bike, 16-Inch, by Huffy
LED Infinity Light-Up Bike
This is the Electro-Light Kids Bike by Huffy. It's a lightweight, yet durable, youth bike that's designed for kids between the ages of four and six (or with a maximum weight of 60 pounds and a height of 42 to 48 inches). The durable frame is made of alloy steel, and it has 16-inch red wheels that are color-coordinated to match the palette of the bike. There are also removable training wheels included for those who are just learning how to ride, and coaster brakes make it easy for young riders to control their speed. The pièce de résistance is the series of LED lights that shine in sync on the panel in front of the handlebars, on the frame insert near the seat, and along the chainguard.
They want to ride their bicycles

In the (pluralized) pedalin' words of Queen, our twins want to ride their bicycles, they want to ride their bikes.
And that yearning for learning is driven by just how cool these bikes are.
They can't stop talking about their bikes—about how they light up, about how the lights go around-and-around-and-around, about how you can see the lights in the dark, about how they're going to learn to ride super-duper fast.

As they embark on another milestone and fine-tune the mechanics behind it, we're happy to know they're excited to learn and grow.

The Reason Your Twins Stopped Sleeping Through the Night Could be Medical
Every parent knows how exhausting it is having babies who don't sleep through the night. Sleepless nights with several wake-ups make for tired days that slip by. Longer...

Seat Check Saturday 2025: How to Keep Your Twins Safe in Their Car Seats
You can't count on other drivers on the road to be doing what they're supposed to be doing. You hope they are (and most of the time, they are), but if you're like me, you assume they're going to do something that doesn't follow the rules of the road, so you always drive with extra caution. What you CAN count on is yourself—how you drive and what you do to keep passengers in your car...
