As a parent of twins, one of the scariest ideas is leaving the house with your young twins.

Not because you don't want to go somewhere and not because you don't want them to experience all of the wonderful things that life has to offer.

Because there's SO much to carry when you've got two in tow—and only so many hands to do the carrying, especially if you're flying solo for the day.

But a new smart lock from The Chamberlain Group, the company behind the popular myQ app, can make that daunting task easy for those who are wrangling wee ones, managing multiples, and juggling all the junk that comes with preparing for an outing with your dynamic duo.

Unified, comprehensive home security

Announced at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, Nevada this January, the myQ Secure View 3-in-1 Smart Lock combines a smart lock, a 2K HDR video doorbell, and a biometric security camera into one very smart and useful device for securing your home.

Designed to work in temperatures as cold as -20°C or as hot as 60°C, this lock runs on a rechargeable battery that can experience both temperature differentials on a single charge because it lasts up to six months before the battery needs to be topped up. If only the batteries in our children's toys lasted that long.

What makes us most excited for this lock is the fact that it can make it easier for you to get your twins...inside the house when you get home because you don't have to drop everything to dig your keys out.

This lock puts AI software to work, so you can be notified when packages arrive or if someone comes a-knockin', and it can even tell the difference between people, vehicles, or little animals that may scurry by.

What makes us most excited for this lock, though, is the fact that it can make it easier for you to get your twins—and all of their belongings you're lugging in from the car—inside the house when you get home because you don't have to drop everything to dig your keys out.

With this lock, there are five different ways you can unlock your door:

  1. Face Access: The lock recognizes your face and opens automatically.
  2. Fingerprint Recognition: A quick tap of your finger unlocks the door in just two seconds.
  3. PIN Code: Traditional keypad entry with unique codes for guests, service providers, or frequent visitors (like dog walkers).
  4. Mobile App: Lock or unlock from anywhere using the myQ app on your phone.
  5. Physical Key: A standard back-up key, just in case. Note, the new keys for this lock will replace your other keys from your previous lock.

If this intrigues you, you're not alone, but be warned that the Face Access and Fingerprint Recognition features aren't available in Illinois or Texas or outside of the U.S. and Canada.

A twin to tout the tech

While I personally think the facial recognition feature is wonderful, who better to second how fabulous this option is than someone who designs dream homes for a living AND understands how much work twins can be?

Jonathan Scott, host of Property Brothers, is an identical twin. He also happens to have a lot of good things to say about myQ's new smart lock. And considering how many homes he and his brother have transformed over the years and needed to keep secure for clients, that actually means something.

I recently met Jonathan, and aside from talking all-things-twins (he's a twin (identical), I'm a twin (fraternal), I'm an auntie of twins (fraternal), and I'm a mother of twins (identical)), we chatted about why this smart lock is so helpful for people, especially those who are juggling a million things when they get home and don't want to—or aren't able to—drop everything to fish a key out of their bag.

"We have a mother of twins. Twins are a handful, I'm just gonna tell you that," Jonathan laughs, but I already know this from the first almost-four years with our twins. Still, he says it so nonchalantly, it makes me wonder about what's yet to come.

Identical twin vs. fraternal twin. Too many twins? Never.

"So, will this lock make life easier? One-hundred percent," he says. "What I love is that this lock will recognize you. You can program it to recognize any individual, and as you're walking up to it, it will unlock. So, you don't even slow your cadence, and it's unlocking, and you can go right in. It's the fastest lock, I believe, in the industry."

"What I love is that this lock will recognize you. You can program it to recognize any individual, and as you're walking up to it, it will unlock."

Over time, this smart lock can also collect data, giving homeowners helpful analytics about the comings and goings (literally) at their house. This lock can tell you, for example, what time your child gets home and if they have an unrecognized person with them.

Better yet, if your kids are already at home and, say, forgot to lock the door for the fifth time this week, you can rest a little easier knowing that if the lock's camera picks up an unknown person approaching your door, it will use its Smart Secure feature to automatically lock the door. They don't call it a smart lock for nothin'. Its wide-angle lens and color night vision mean it can clearly see who's at the front door anytime, day or night.

"I believe in technology that has an actual purpose that makes your home safer, that makes your life better," says Jonathan. "And I think having all of this tech in one device, where if you see a problem happening, you can actually take action and lock the door—if IT sees a stranger walk up to the door, it will automatically take action—all of these things are incredibly important."

This smart lock gets a seal of approval from Jonathan Scott, host of Property Brothers, who needs to confidently keep multiple homes secure for his clients.

As a twin mom of multiples who's battled with unlocking the front door far too many times while being saddled down by both of her twins AND all of their belongings, this smart lock, which can recognize you and unlock the door as you Hulk your way up to it, gets our seal of approval, too.
